According to Hardman (2009) decision can be defined as the act of making a choice which indicates an individual’s intentions whereas Judgement is the act of assessing information. Although both can be distinguished we cannot make a decision independently of making a judgement. Therefore one can argue that judgement is a perquisite to making a decision.
What constitutes a good decision?
As defined before a decision is basically the assessing information, from the information and facts an act of evaluation occurs.
For a decision to be 'good' one would argue that the facts have to be void of personal bias and distortion which in essence is difficult if not impossible to do. I.e. a person waiting for treatment needs to decide whether to have a non-critical surgery. This person would evaluate the doctor’s suggestions in conjunction with their own personal beliefs, experiences and case reports of similar situations. This process is prone to distortion and bias which arguably reflect itself in the individual’s decision.
